Eleanor Carter– Candidate Statement

Eleanor Carter.Eleanor Carter is first and foremost a patient advocate. Eleanor believes that the needs of patients are not being met and that the public is not being listened to.

Eleanor is one of five candidates standing for Health Cuts Hurt, a patient lobby group. She spoke out against thousands of patients being struck off the waiting lists in 2006. She has continually lobbied for more funding and a better deal for patients since 2003.

As spokesperson for Health Cuts Hurt, Eleanor has striven to be the voice of patients in what has been a health service plagued by waiting list cuts, an over-crowded Emergency Department, and industrial strife. Eleanor believes instead that a health service funded according to community need and run in a transparent and effective manner, is what we should be aiming for.

Eleanor is the assistant to the general manager at St Andrews College in Christchurch.
