Tom
Dowie is an activist who advocates for a patient driven health system, rather
than a management and funding driven one.
Tom Dowie is one of five candidates standing for Health Cuts Hurt. Tom was a founding member of Health Cuts Hurt. Tom is proud to be part of a team that has continually put pressure on the Ministry of Health to stop the cuts to waiting lists.
Tom has a special interest in addiction issues and was active in trying to stop the closure of Queen Mary Hospital and the sale of the land in Hanmer. While Tom feels that patients are now paying the price for residential closures, he will also work to ensure that the sell off of the family silver in health ceases.
Tom is employed as a Union Organiser working partly within the Health Sector,
and is on the Waltham Primary School Board of Trustees.
